There is no longer any doubt that blogging has captured the worlds imagination like few other Internet phenomenon have before or since. The immense popularity of blogging however has only served to focus attention on numerous bloggers that are seemingly unaware of blogging etiquette. If you have been a frequent observer of the blogging phenomenon for a number of years now, then you probably know what we are talking about. The relative lack of blogging etiquette has only emphasized the need to maintain some sort of structure and the blogging arena.
On the part of the blogger, it is important to bear in mind that you are essentially writing for a global audience. While the personal approach remains a valid means of expression, the modern day blogger should at least make an effort to be understood by a wider range of readers.
While blogging was once primarily a way to share your innermost thoughts and ideas to the world, the vast popularity of blogging has resulted in countless pages seemingly dedicated to trivial posts. There is certainly nothing stopping you from doing the same today if you wish, although you can hardly expect everyone who comes across your blog to be interested in the minutiae of your day to day life. Instead of merely posting about your day to day activities, it may better serve your blog to write on a certain theme or subject.
A good blog is always written by someone who knows what he is talking about. You will greatly increase the chances of your blogs success if the subject that you are writing about is something that you are passionate about or at least have some degree of familiarity in. While no one is expecting you to know every single thing there is to know about your chosen niche, you should at the very least be in possession of a bit more knowledge and/or experience than the majority of your readers. Remember that your audience is will want to pick up some information or unique insight on that particular subject matter that youre focusing on, and having some knowledge is the best way to provide that content.
Ripping off other peoples content is a no no. If you have nothing at all to write on your blog, resist the urge to lift content from other blogs. Keep the golden rule in mind, and dont rip off content if you dont want other people ripping off content from you!
Lastly, do not take advantage of your anonymity on the Internet. Anything that you write in your blog may find its way back to you in the future. Always be accountable for your thoughts and actions online, and act the same way that you would in real life.
