The modern day steel building is patterned after the World War II Quonset huts. Quonset huts were used to house soldiers in the field during the war. Quonset huts were easy to put up and take down. Civilians caught on to the idea of the Quonset hut design and they quickly became popular. The basic building design of the Quonset hut is used today for many purposes. The design has curved walls that forms an arch over the floor. Because of the arch design, it was difficult to place furniture or machinery along the walls of the Quonset hut. To solve this problem, the walls were altered to have a 90 degree angle.
Quonset hut buildings inspired the design of modern day prefabricated steel buildings. In fact, many current portable steel buildings got their design from the Quonset hut. The modern day Quonset hut can be put together in no time.Right after World War II, airplane hangers were made out of steel and designed after the Quonset hut. Thousands of the Quonset huts began to be made. The popularity of the huts grew because of how easy they were to put together. Quonset hut style steel buildings are still used by the military today. Quonset huts can be used for office buildings as well as for storage. The uses for Quonset huts really are endless.
Quonset huts are not very attractive but they are extremely strong and durable. Civilians use Quonset huts for storage and office space also. Even American farmers will sometimes use Quonset huts to store their farm equipment in, livestock feed and other things in. If you have room on your property, you can use small Quonset huts to keep vehicles and motorcycles in too. There are also small plastic Quonset hut style storage containers for people to use too. Quonset huts are used for green houses, canopies for recreations vehicles, boat shelters, animal shelters, the list goes on and on. Quonset hut canopies are now used for boat shelter, animal shelters, green houses, etc. Metal frames and a plastic cover are used to make popular Quonset style green houses today. The shape and size on the Quonset green house, makes them really easy to heat. It is worth looking into the new style Quonset hut buildings. More information Garage buildings ... Garage buildings ...
