A few months ago, we sold our house and moved to a different neighborhood in the same city. In all our other moves, we used a traditional packing and moving service. The movers would come in with a big team and start moving and packing multiple rooms at the same time. I am a bit of a control freak and that always left me feeling completely out of balance. We usually spent a couple weeks slowly packing up the things we did not want the movers packing. The more we packed, the more unrecognizable the rooms would become and we could barely move around all the stacks of boxes. As we had no room to move during our weeks of packing, we longed for a one room to just stack all the boxes where they would be out of the way. If only we would have known about pods storage. We only saw two ways to do this. We hire movers or we do it all ourselves.
We decided to try something new this time. Upon on a recommendation from a friend, we used one of those pods storage companies. They delivered the storage unit to our curb. The container was very secure and made of heavy steel. They come in all sizes, but we had to get a pretty big one for the contents of our house. For eight days, that pods storage unit sat conveniently for our moving needs. We were able to take our time packing. We would pack a couple boxes after we would get home each evening and could stack them directly in the storage unit. We did not have to rush as we had done with so many of our other moves. We decided to hire some people to take care of all the heavy stuff and furniture moving for us. The pods storage company gave us a recommendation, so we did not even have to do any of the leg work to find movers. The movers came the day prior to the container being picked up. A truck moved the storage from our house to the new house within a matter of hours.
The day you move can try even the most patient person. Having to unload and unpack everything in new place the same day that you just packed the old place is exhausting. The pods storage container can sit in the new location for a few days, allowing you to slowly unpack it. We had the same movers who did the heavy lifting a couple days before come to the new place that day and unload the furniture. We slowly unloaded the rest at our leisure, as we got settled in that week. The pods storage guys brought a truck and took the unit away when we finally emptied it. If you are not moving locally, the pods storage company also offers storage units in climate controlled warehouses until you are ready to receive your container.
It was much less stressful and more cost effective to hire pods storage. We had the storage unit for a total of three weeks and it ran us about the same amount we would have paid to lease a U haul for a weekend.
