Our family owned business at Luker Custom Canvas has proudly made flags for our communities for years, and any flag product we have made will stand the test of time for beauty and endurance, and be authentic in its representation.  Our custom American Flags, for example, have delighted customers from all over West Michigan!  There is pride and craftsmanship in each flag and our sales people can also assist you in explaining how the American Flag should be displayed and how to care for it.  There are rules!

These rules, or etiquette, for flying and caring for the American Flag are generated at the federal level.  For example, if the American flag is flying, it must have a light source, which is why, absent of light, a flag is lowered from a flagpole when the sun goes down.  If you are flying an American Flag at home, an event, or your business, you can keep it flying 24/7 if you have a light source on it for the dark hours.   Here are some of the American Flag essentials in etiquette for you:

Did you know that the American Flag should never be dipped or swayed to any individual or thing, and should only be flown upside down as an emergency notification?
Did you know that the American Flag should be cleaned and mended when necessary, and when no longer able to restore it to its beauty, it should be ceremoniously folded and burned?
Did you know that the American Flag should never touch the ground – that it should be lowered carefully and handed to a waiting person, not touching anything else?
Did you know that the American Flag should never be altered by writing on it or altering it in any other way?
Did you know that the 13 red and white stripes of the American Flag represent the original 13 colonies, as the 13 stars in a circle did when the American Flag was first designed in 1776 by Betsy Ross?  In 1777 this design was formally adopted by the Continental Congress as the official American Flag, henceforth representing our country to the rest of the world.

The flagpole chosen for your flag’s display must be sturdy enough to hold a flag in varying weather conditions, and aluminum is widely used for its durability and rust resistance.  Fiberglass and steel are other materials less commonly used.  Flagpoles can be customized to suit your needs for the appropriate flag display for your home, business, sporting event, or whatever your need for a flag would be.  The correct flagpole is essential to not only the proud look you wish your flag to display, but for some, like the American Flag, the legitimate way for it to be displayed.

Computer graphics have enhanced what can be portrayed on the body of the flag, making a more complex design and larger sizes of flags well within your reach.  With the latest in custom production techniques and the premier construction we are known for, we at Luker Custom Canvas are able to produce custom flags and banners of the finest quality for you. Come see us for all your flag and banner needs!
